HELP IN ANYWAY—
This is a repost from Sana’s blog.. I know Queenie personally because she is my sister‘s friend. What they went through is not fair. I am reposting this in the hope that some US readers of this post can help them, in anyway…
The incident happened a long time ago— May 25, 2006 but until now, the Velasco family still needs help to clear out their names. Right now they can’t find decent jobs because of the case they were NEVER convicted with prior to the pediatrician’s findings. Allan and Queenie Velasco were arrested and charged with child neglect for not seeking immediate attention for their child’s minor injury. Queenie was arrested at the hospital where they took Carmela, their child, and Allan was dragged out of their Jersey City home with the full view of the neighbors – dragged out and cuffed without a chance to wear shoes or jacket, and wasn’t given a chance to get his cellphone or wallet.

The Birdie Flew No More…
Last year, my little girl saw this dead bird on the terrace floor. She called me immediately and pointed at it with teary eyes. She said she pitied the bird. Then she changed the tone of her voice, speaking in a quite distinct adult like manner, as she explained to me that what happened to the bird is similar to the story Teacher Marissa told them in class. I thought she has forgotten about this bird, but yesterday, she reminded me about it..THIS IS FOR ALL OF US MOTHERS…
I memorize this song by heart. Even when I was in High School, I know the lyrics and the melody as this song is sung by my grandma, Lola Berta in her own dialect from Leyte.. when my cousins and I were lulled by her to sleep… I remember singing this while sending my then infant Lili to dreamland… She has grown up with this song sung to her by me, my mom or my sisters, Honey or Sweet… Now, she can sing this song too.. In fact, this is the first song she has memorized.. although she can’t pronounce yet in her early years, still, she is able to finish the song…

3rd Hand Smoking…
We are all aware of the ill effects of second hand smoking to the health of the non-smokers who are around a smoker 
. But here’s what is worse. Even if a smoker has left the vicinity, he can still affect the lives of the people around him. How? Well, here is now the new discovery known to be called as 3rd hand smoking. What is this all about?
Third hand smoking actually refers to the residue of smoke, nicotine and all other components from a smoker’s recent smoking activity. These residue are those that stick to fabric or those that are left in an enclosed space where the smoker has recently done his activity. When a non smoker enters said vicinity and inhales the residue, it will also cause him or her the very ill effects of smoking..
Let us all remember that, as we celebrate WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY…
